Are you ready for a new cards cartridge? I sure am. I love easy-to-make cards and the specific cartridges that make that possible. I love whenever Cricut comes out with new cartridges. I love the recently released Simple Pop-Up Cards Cricut cartridge! If you remember the classic Everyday Pop-Up Cards cartridge, you know some designs were a little hard to figure out (with regard to assembly). So I wanted to do two cards, just in case, I happened to pick the one card that doesn’t quite work! 🙂
Suggestion: If you are buying this cartridge, you will want to make sure you have the right scoring tool for your Cricut machine. If you have the Explore system, you will want the scoring stylus, and if you have the Expression, you need the scoring tip. This tool will make your life so much easier! I don’t think you would want to have to score these cards by hand!
So here are the two cards I chose to make. The first is the Congratulations card. This card would be perfect for all those graduations coming up! Not only do you get a cute card that you can create in their school colors, but it delivers a nice third dimension! Oh, and the bonus feature if you have the Explore (the Air or the One), this cartridge will draw the text on the bottom of the card. If you don’t like the message, you can easily hide the text or add your own to make it a personalized custom card. I left the text on this one. It says, “You did it!” This card was easy to put together just two simple layers.
NOTE: I did find it easier to glue the two layers together before you start trying to fold the pop-ups. I think it gave the card more stability, so it was easier to see where and how each part was supposed to be folded. Just make sure you don’t glue the whole thing down, or you won’t have any pop-up action. 🙂
This second project is the I love you card. I used the drawing feature again on the Explore, so it says, “I love you with all my heart!” Both of these cards have matching envelopes (as do all the cards on this cartridge), making it easy for you to create them whatever size you want.
So overall, it’s really easy to create with the new Simple Pop-Up Cards Cricut cartridge. Project ideas? Share them with us here or on social media. Get stocked up with American Crafts paper. We have lots of options, like Pebbles, Pink Paislee, Crate Paper cardstock, Studio Calico, and more.
Happy creating!
I have an old Cricut Create and a new Simple Pop-Up Cards cartridge. I can’t get the cartridge to work. While I did manage to get the first card to print out using the Portrait key, I couldn’t get it to work on others. Do you have any suggestions?
You may need to make your images smaller. Using the portrait feature should help to let you make them a little larger, but to make it fit on the mat it would have to be smaller. I hope that helps and works for you. The cartridge should work just fine with all machines.

I have the very first cricul machine – its 6 inch…..the cartridge fits….but comes with no overlay…is it possible to use this or have I spent my money wrongly in buying this?
Michelle,
No you need a universal overlay and it will work with the Cricut cartridges that don’t come with an overlay.
Awesome – cause I really really like the cartridge ideas. Purchased the overlay, just waiting for it to arrive! Thank you!
