My boys frequently get invitations to birthday parties. It’s shocking how often they are pirate-themed parties. I think it must be a little boy thing! I’m always looking for fun new Cricut cards for my boys and their friends, and I think this one is perfect. I really love the little pirate guy (there is a cute girl as well) on the Create A Friend Cricut cartridge. He could also be used as fun Pirate-themed decor if you cut him out on a full 12″ x 24″ paper. I like the idea of playing pin the eye patch on the pirate (or try the sword). Another option would be to use it for party invitations.

How to make this Cricut Card

For this card, I used the Phrases Cricut cartridge for the base of the card I cut it at 7″. The image is the called the double bracket card.

For the inlaid sheet I used the Old West Cricut cartridge and cut the paper out at 5.25″ but you could also just tear the edges of a piece of paper to give it the same look. Using Cricut tools always makes projects easier.

I used some Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Rusty Hinge) to ink the edges and the paper. This method is what gives it that old worn map look. I inked the edges and the inside of the sheet generously. That is why it looks like it has some texture. If I were to make it again, I would crinkle the paper up some before inking. That would give the card more dimension and also make it look more authentic.

As mentioned, the pirate is from the Create A Friend cartridge and he was cut out at 5.5″.

You can write all the text using Cricut Explore machines and the black marker from the Antiquity marker set. If you are using the Explore, try the write function. Choose text to add to the image and let the machine draw it onto the material.
